Type: Sweet Sugar Cane (Local Florida Grown Hybrid)

How to Plant Your Sugarcane Starter Cuttings

You will receive your sugarcane dormant on purpose. Dormant cane ships safer, stores longer, and establishes more reliably once planted. If your cuttings look firm, slightly dry, and leafless, they are healthy.

What you received:

• 3 dormant sugarcane propagation cuttings

• Each stalk is between 8-12 inches long and will have 2-3 growth nodes each

• Each cutting contains multiple growth nodes
• No roots yet, this is normal (Sugarcane grows from nodes, not roots. Roots form after planting.)

Before You Plant

Unwrap the cane immediately

Inspect for firmness

Store short-term if needed:
• Up to 7 days at room temperature
• Up to 2 weeks refrigerated
• Keep dry and ventilated

Do not soak unless planting the same day.

  •  Why does my Sugarcane have no leaves or roots? Dormant cane survives shipping better and establishes more reliably

Is this edible sugarcane? This is sold as propagation material only.

What if it looks dry? Firm cane is alive. Soft or hollow cane is not. Once in warm, moist soil, the wax softens, cracks, or biodegrades naturally. The plant does not need the cut end exposed to grow.

Why does my Sugar Cane have wax on the end? Beeswax prevents dehydration and rot during storage and shipping.

It hasn’t sprouted yet, should I remove the wax? No. Sprouting takes 1–3 weeks in warm soil. (Not all Sugar Cane get's waxed, those that ship will have wax caps)

Can I soak waxed cane? No soaking. Plant directly.

    1. Unwrap immediately
    2. Plant horizontally 3 to 4 inches deep
    3. Water once after planting
    4. Place in full sun

Sprouting takes 1 to 3 weeks.

Do not keep sealed or soaking.
Do not expect roots on arrival.
